having fun going through my 1000 motorola java games, apparently they make cell phone rpgs and something called sexonix which is some sort of hentai porn game. Doom's interesting as well as is connect four, though the computer's way too good.
Also, got my arduino board to work with two multiplexing led displays, and i finally learned binary logic.
And in other news I may start working at LJ in a weeks time which I'm really juiced about.

so for the past two years I've received a horoscope from cingular, beeping every day at 7:30 am, and I've finally figured out how to turn them off. Unlike cingular, AT&T actually has a message manager that actually works. My brother thinks the number was recycled, which makes sense.

Also, one more newly discovered perk to being in the bay area: my mother just granted me scooter privileges.

So my french group got our grades back for our oral evaluation, and I received 5 less points than everyone else in our group, which was surprising because I was using more complex sentence structures then them. When I talked to my teacher, she just lowered her head and sighed. Then she said: "It was the pronunciation. I was just... I had to take points off." then shook her head. Which was really surprising because my partner didn't even make an attempt to pronounce words correctly. Somehow my pronunciation is worse than if I simply didn't try.

I really think I wasn't meant to speak this language.

So I finally moved out of the dorms into an apartment. Besides saving over a thousand dollars per quarter, I now have so much space I dont know what do to with it. I'll probably throw a welcoming party or something. My roommate's really into UCLA radio, and is really quite and introverted, like me. We haven't exchanged more than a few sentences to each other since I moved in a few days ago. In all, it exceeds all my expectations. Two caveats though, my old roommate flaked out called me out on being a colossal cheapskate so naturally neglected bringing down old pots and pans from Orange County, so all I have to cook with is a small pot and a pan which looks like it's been used to cook hot dogs for several months without washing. I'm too cheap to buy my own cookware, so I'll have to invent my own culinary style involving one pot cooking. Also, the carpet is downright filthy, and I dont have a vacuum cleaner.

To beat the art game:
1) find something you're amazing at and that no one else can do.
2) Exploit the fuck out of it. Ride that bitch for all she's worth.

Last night started out at the Getty. Japan had a lot of interesting art movements after the war. Yoko Ono made a phone with instructions to answer it when it rang. It never did, and I think that was the point. The curator lied to me. Check out the Überorgan if you can, it put a smile on my face.

Then back to Joey's apartment to smear paint on a thrifted jacket. I still think the idea is stupid, but his jacket actually turned out looking pretty good. Then, to K town. Cold noodles? Sure, except they close at 10. What kind of restaurant closes at 10 on a friday night? Tofu house: we stole their metal chopsticks and got to crack open a raw egg into our boiling soup. But why is there so much meat here at Tofu house?

Fashion week, LA, exists. It's apparently made up of all the people who dont have enough shows under their belt to display in New York. I havent decided if it's a training ground or beating a dead horse, filled with the designers who should have throw in the towel a long time ago. Probably a little of both.

Sir, those figures are from when I was 15. —You must have shot up like a weed in the past 7 years.

There are some great, old apartment complexes in downtown LA. The entire place reminds me of what I heard about Times Square in the late 70's, when times square was a dirty, unsafe sprawl of sex clubs, before the mayor banned the clubs and brought in Disney. I doubt LA will ever change, though. These apartment complexes are just isolated enclaves of artistic expressions. I hope I'm proved wrong, since there are so many creative kids here that somethings bound to happen.

"LA is alright, it's what it is. It really is just what it is. I travel a lot though, as do most of the people I know."

PS Penny Lane, 2007, wears Emo Glasses and has a cute butt.

havent updated in a really long time and feel a bit out of the eljay loop. Mischa - your myspace needs to be a lot uglier. Where are your garish pastels and punk music. Perhaps a metal logo pinned in the background. wish i could have attended you bbq though,

I just got back from a weekend trip to Santa Cruz. It felt really good to climb trees, hike trough redwoods, and cave exploring. It recharged my need of nature and fresh air. More importantly though the girls (and guys) I saw on campus had more self respect and maturity than here at UCLA. And were more loving. It sometimes makes me think twice about college, however I honestly think i'm challenged more and exposed to more in LA.

The time on the road makes me want to have a long distance road trip this summer.

The List [Sep. 13th, 2006|12:20 pm]
Back in sophomore year at Berkeley High, while eating crepes with Caitlin Dolan and Katherine Ammirati, I made a list of movies I'd like to see. I carried it around with me in my wallet until I left for college, periodically striking some off the list and adding new ones. As I was packing today for my annual migration south I stumbled on the list. Hopefully I'll keep adding new ones, and feel free to criticize my selections.

In no particular order:

Popular:
About a Boy
Apocolipse Now (Redux)
Better Luck Tomorrow
Casablanca
Some Like It Hot
The French Connection
The Big Kahuna
24 Hour Party People
The Graduate
Boyz N the Hood
Rebel Without a Cause
East of Eden
SuperManChu

Artistic/Random:
Video Drome
Scanners
Naked
A Band of Outsiders
Mystery Train
Scorpio Rising (about an army of gay/nazi bikers)
Midnight Cowboy
Badlands
In a Lonely Place
Neighbors
Allures
21-87 (Inspired Lucas to make THX-1138)

Not For Children:
Deep Throat
Boogie Nights

In lieu of actually describing my ride to burning man I've come up with a new way of describing the random people you meet on craigslist: The Danny Index. All the people I had to deal with involving my moped ranked about 1.5 to 2. Danny would be the upper threshold with a score of 10.

In my opinion my ride ranks about a high 8, perhaps 9.

See you guys in a week.

Things are pretty good. [Jun. 7th, 2006|11:46 pm]
Had our final performance of the Shakespearean one acts show to many laughs and an applause – much better then last week. Ended the night with a few new friends and a well deserved pick me up.

Went to a free Talib Kweli show, alone. Then to a dive cafe for coffee and cigs. People were playing chess, bones. Talked philosophy and politics with two gentlemen and a gal. I want to go back, but next time hang out with people my own age.

P.S. Switched over to American Spirits. I find I can smoke as many as I want with no discomfort. Hopefully I wont get addicted.

i'd like to work a job at the daily bruin that's more fulfilling then imputing frat boy ad executive's uninspiring ads into the computer. But if i switch over to a job which is more creative i won't get paid for about a year, and when i think about it, how interesting is "designing" the layout of a newspaper, and i'm sure taking pictures of the same student groups and sport teams would get pretty boring. newspapers are really exciting, yet does every part of the newspaper become monotonous after months of late nights and a virtually unchanging subject matter? or is it the people and the atmosphere and the rush of things that's so appealing....
